Builders Face Increased Fees, Struggle to Meet Lower Priced Housing Demands

The National Association of Home Builders has conducted a nationwide survey of building contractors about regulatory fees and learned that those for code compliance, permitting and sewer use are holding steady but increasingly common “Impact Fees” are adding to their bottom line costs. The list of costs that did not exist a decade ago includes storm water management and tree planting requirements designed to mitigate negative effects on neighbors and previously existing communities.
